Offered a job but never heard back

Pretty sure my references are good! For my last job in financial services everything came back fine and the same for one of the hospital bank jobs. The HR lady told me they were all fine so I had to go back in and sign my contract, do the occy health form (all fine) and give them my bank details for payroll.

I did have a query in a previous job about dates on my references where the date a previous employer gave was incorrect. On that occasion, the background checking company came back and queried it and it was resolved really easily.

I have no criminal record, I've not lied on my CV, never been sacked or disciplined at work, never had any problem before.

Tried going through switchboard and the phone for the HR person just rang again!

They obviously don't want me for some reason so I won't bother anymore.

Strange. Maybe they have a few issues within the company (staffing/communication/technical) but you'd still they would have contacted you.
