Need help - Which is the best Student Bank Account for 2007/8

Hi, this my frist post on this forum.

I currently have the Card Plus account with Natwest, which I have had for two years. However, I am going to study a BSc degree in Biochemistry at King's College from this september and therefore need a student account.

Now, I know that last years best student account was Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBOS), with its interest free overdraft of £2,750 every year and I see that they still have that deal this year.

So I would like to know if Halifax is still the best student account for this year or is there another bank who has a better student account.

Thanks.

  • I'd recommend staying away from Halifax. I've been with them for 25 years, but their customer service when I needed, it was worse than terrible.

They've randomly taken out hundreds of pounds from my student account and not even apologised when they left me without a penny for three days (till they corrected the error).

Well, I 'had' a student account with them. At random, they changed it to a normal account (without telling me) and started charging me £20 a month for the overdraft facility. I raised the issue in December... it's still not fixed. When the last £20 came out, it got charged an extra £28 for the over-overdraft and added some other nice charges totalling over £100 for the resulting bounced transactions.

They claim they never received any of my letters...

Stay away from them if you can. Well, that's what I would do in hindsight.
  • Ok, can anyone tell me which bank which bank has the best student account then.

A recent survey said that HSBC and Natwest were offering the best deals for students this year - of course it all depends on what you are looking for in a student account?
