Thanks guys. I thought there must be something wrong with it but couldn't put my finger on it -
As it's a second home and the recorded price would be £160k they'd also get hit with a much bigger Capital Gains Tax bill when they eventually come to sell.
For the avoidance of doubt this is a really bad idea for your parents...Every generation blames the one before...

Apart from all the other points this has various characteristics that could point to it being a scam - with the £40k being the target of the scam.0
