Tonight I opened a Club Lloyds c/a and moved £5000 in by FP. I now find on closer examination of the T & Cs that the two direct debits actually have to send money out in the account month, as opposed to merely being in place (e.g. quarterly DD from Santander 123). Interest isn't paid otherwise, and it's a fixed account month which ends on Monday 2nd.
I've searched through twelve pages and only found this relevant thread, which shows that a Tesco Savings a/c could have one set up in that timescale, but the DDs have to be different so does anyone have any suggestions for the other one, please? I've tried changing my Severn Trent Water DD date (you can choose any date) to the 2nd (from the 1st), but it just reschedules the payments to start on 2nd Dec :(

  • Hi, I opened my Club Lloyds account on 27th July. My first interest payment was received on 3rd August, my second on 1st September but my direct debits didn't start being paid until 7th and 21st September. I wasn't charged the fee either. Hope this helps.

Best solution for you would probably be a 2nd Tesco internet saver account. This would allow you to set up a second DD on your Lloyds Club AC. I'm pretty sure some leeway is given when initially setting up DDs by Lloyds, so I wouldn't expect you to be charged the fee in the first month.

The Lloyds Rep who used to post on here confirmed some time ago that they give you 'a short grace period' at the start of the account. If you set up your DDs to pay asap you will be alright.

You can also set up a PayPal Direct Debit. During my first month at Santander, I was also worried about not getting the DD in place in time, so I took up Taste Cards £1 for 3 month offer, and paid for it via PayPal, which in turn took a direct debit out of my Santander account. It did take a few days, but if you do something similar (i.e. pay a friend and select the new account as the account from which you'll pay), it MAY be done before wednesday, though chances are it may take a week depending on when the PayPal direct debit was set up.

Been looking through old threads but can't find it. However seem to recall that the DDs need to pay at some point in the second full month.

With regards PayPal , you don't need to pay a friend or buy something , once you have linked your accounts you can simply pull £1 to your own PayPal account and then when it arrives send it back to where it came from . The problem with PayPal is that you have to do it manually. There is no way to automate the process.

Am I misunderstanding? If your core issue is that you are trying to earn interest for the last few days of October + 1, then I doubt that you'll get anything set-up / diverted in that time.

So you're down a few quid. We've all been there. :)

It's in the T & Cs that the fee isn't charged; not so for any DD concession, though.
