We had similar on our kitchen, and it was awful. Turned out since we moved and got a dishwasher and used that, the kitchen sink hardly ever gets used, and not enough water was going down the waste to flush it through. So what little went down the sink (dregs of a cup of tea, tiny amount of cold soup etc) was sitting in the pipes under the sink, and causing the smell as not enough fast flowing water was going down the kitchen sink. 1 application of sink unblocker and regularly running the cold tap for couple of minutes solved it

The same thing used to happen in my mum's house from time to time, it was an old house with several homes sharing the same waste water sewer pipe which used to become blocked and the sewer gas would come back up and into her conservatory. The water company came out each time with their drain rods and had to inspect inside each manhole down the line until they found where the blockage was and could clear it.

I've heard similar a few times, but have never been brave enough to try. Can you possibly clarify the procedure please? Does the vinegar go literally in the drum, or does it go into the drawer where you normally put the soap powder? Or does it go in the compartment the softener liquid goes? If it does go in the drum, you literally pour it out of the cup into the drum (as opposed to leaving a receptacle of vinegar in the drum during the cycle to be deposited more evenly)? Finally, does it have to be the odourless type of white vinegar or can you use the stinky stuff?

I've just done mine as every time the washer was on an awful eggy smell filled the kitchen.
I went onto the website for the DP Soda Crystals that I used and did as directed and it worked, now we don't get any smell at all.
I used half a 1kg pack of soda crystals direct into the drum, and 1 cup of white vinegar in the section for soap powder. Set it going on a 90 degree full wash (empty) and it was fine. HTH.

Thank you. That is very helpful. does the vinegar have to be odourless?
