Not a hope ...Gone ... or have I?0 -
Not a hope in hell of that happening, unless you can suggest to Gordon Brown how to make up the shortfall. And why just stamp duty? I'd like to abolish income tax, national insurance, council tax, and VAT, and see government spending rise by 20% every year.Been away for a while.0

you don't know until you try ....0

I'd rather stamp duty was higher & income tax was lower. I'll only pay stamp duty 2-3 times in my life, I have to pay income tax every fricking day."Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.

Ill go with that.
Theres no chance in hell that this government will abolish stamp duty.0 -
Bad idea to abolish.
The lower paid will just end up paying more tax to pay for it. House prices will go up to cover the saving.
In which case the goverment will probably go for it!0 -
Inheritance tax is first on my list....In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0

2 things in life that you can be sure of, death and taxes!
whether it be stamp duty, fuel tax, or whatever charges that might be given the name 'stealth tax' by the popular press, these taxes are paid by the majority of the population and the abolition or reduction of any of them will only lead to increase in taxes elswhere.
to digress from the original subject, is there anyone else who gets really annoyed about certain groups who claim that the government is picking on 'the motorist', as if 'the motorist' is some sort of minority group in this country? last time I checked, everyone I know who is in employment drives a car, so any decrease in fuel tax would only lead to them being hammered elsewhere, i.e. income tax!0 -

What's wrong with a tax on rich, dead people that's my perfect tax.

hmmm maybe it might be better to start a petition to allow parents to discipline their children ... might get a bit more support in the hope of reducing youth crime.0
