Protected ncb query
Hi guys. Quick question, I had my car broken into last week and as they can't find who done it it's down as an at fault claim.
I've protected my ncb but just wondering do I still accrue a year or not?
I've got 11 years but will it go upto 12 at the end of the year or stay at 12. I know I won't lose any but I assume you don't accrue any either?
Is that correct?

you might get the extra NCB , BUT they will load your policy if you made a claim
and yes they will honour your NCB , but just raise the policy price0 -
shouldn't have claimed, did they take stuff of high value? A break in is generally a cheap "hit" for lack of a better word. New satnav, (and phone, stero etc if applies). A new side window is generally cheap to fix in an old car, you can take off the interior trim to get at the window mechanism and change the window.
The glass is very easy to clear up if you have a dust extrator or a cyclone attachement for a vaccum.0 -
Well it wasn't as simple as that. They drilled tge lock and made a right mess and because it's a keyless bmw they tried to clone a blank key through the obd port which has meant whole new locks on the car. Bmw were quoting over £1500 for a whole replacement.0

So I should still accrue a year then?0

Just to add it was our moving day aswell and I really couldn't leave the car there as the glass was everywhere and with moving I couldn't leave it unsecured.
Doesnt seem to have added much to any of the quotes I've been doing.0 -
The difference between 11 and 12yrs NCB is purely academic. Most insurers maximise the discount at 6-7yrs.0

Yeah its not a massive deal just an enquiry really. My insurers max out at 9 anyway but I know some do go upto 15.0

They have the option to go upto 15 on the quote but is the price any cheaper than 7,8 or 9? Usually not.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

No i doubt it. Reason I wemt through the insurance was because they had been messing with the obd port it could have possibly messed up or fried the central computer so I was lucky as they had targeted another bmw down the road aswell and that wouldn't even start after.
Can guarantee it would have cost a lot more then my £250 excess0 -
A lot more than your excess, but what about the potential hike in premium now you have had a claim that you need to declare for upto 5 years?
You still get 70% (approx) off your premium but your premium may now be higher as you have an incident on record.
Your base premium may increase as a result.
example £1000 with 70% off = £300 so you pay £300 now with no incidents.
next year with an incident it maybe £1400 with 70% off = £420.
Having to declare that incident for upto 5 years, and a hit on the number of claims you can make without affecting the no claims protection.
the excess may not be the end of the costs to yourself.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
