Gas smart meter display
I am buying a new house, but I have not moved yet. Yesterday I went in the house with estate agent, and asked him whether gas smart meter is prepay or postpay? He pressed some buttons on gas smart meter, he had no idea what he was doing. He pressed red button once and then pressed black button twice. When we left the place, the display was showing Credit On .
1) What does 'Credit On' means?
2) What is the purpose of black button on gas smart meter?
3) How do I know if meter is prepay or not?

The same little e6 meter is used.Prepay would have a slot at the bottom. No need to ever press the black button. Couple of presses of the red button to see the meter index, or better still see the in house display0

You said never press black button, but estate agent has already pressed the black button twice. Will it cause any problem? I am concerned if gas supply will turn off after a while, because black button is pressed?0 -
They are using an e6 meter with a smart module. Its very similar to a prepay meter where the black button is used when new occupiers move in to wipe out all info and recommission it for a new occupier. I dont think pressing the black button on the smart prepay will do any harm.Once when I was faced with a blank screen on the smart prepay after pressing red button I got a reading pressing the black button so I assume it can update the meter reading also.0

The meter was Landis+Gyr G370 model. There was no visible slot, so it might not be prepay meter.0 -
Might not be working as a smart gas yet neither, .You would have to have the smart electric meter fitted anyway to have the smart gas meter working. It sends the reads only a short distance to the electric meter once a day, which then sends both reads off every two hours for the electric, once a day for gas.0

If it says 'credit on' then it means that it is a smart credit meter, It can not be switched remotely to prepay.
If the gas meter displays 'gas supply on' then it is not in smart mode.0 -

According to Landys Gyr website the G370 supports credit or prepayment modes with remote disconnect and remote management of supply.Maybe this meter is cleverer than we both thought.
There is absolutely no point in bringing out smart meters which don t have that capability of both remote disconnect and remote switching from prepay to credit modes. Joyful of British Gas says shes seen this in action. I havent actually seen this meter in prepay mode ( slotless version ) but a colleague of mine says he has seen a few.0 -
we do have seperate credit and prepay meters, our prepay smart meter appears to have the 'credit' functionality, but the credit meter meter doesn't appear to have the prepay functionality.
Recent internal updates to BGs smart infastructure added the different parts of smart with credit/prepay switch functionality. But I am certain that we wont get this functionality until we fit the smets2 compliant smart meter. I could be wrong though!0
