  • Well done to all moneymakers. Fantastic results this month:T

I'll be getting December off to a sprint start as our local Co-operative has announced that they'll be paying members a bonus of 85% of whatever dividend they earned during the last year. Not sure how much I'll be getting but last year it was about £62 and they were only paying 75% then. This is in addition to the divi that we've already had during the year (which I've spent on my shopping at the Co-op as I've got it:o).

It comes as a credit on our dividend card to be spent in-store from December 1st onwards, so not cash as such, but it means being able to save the equivalent amount from the grocery budget. Have been shopping more at Morrisons this year than the Co-op though so might not get as much as last year, but I've done OK out of Morrisons Price Match so can't grumble.

    Probably me.

I prefer it for selling records (and CDs, although I don't personally sell those) because it's waaaay quicker to list than eBay and the fees are smaller.

Thanks lexbubbles and shellyosborne for the heads-up about discogs:T.

I'd never heard of it either:o. Do you have a referral link for it?
  • Only another 116 posts to go, folks:T.

Nah, there's no referral system. It's just like eBay or Amazon but for music.

It was also calculate a price it thinks you should list at based on the condition, previous sales (at that condition) and current listings (at that condition). Although it will show you all copies currently for sale so you can judge for yourself.

You'll need to grade things in order to put the condition, obviously, but they have a "condition guide" on there to help you judge what you should grade it at: http://www.discogs.com/help/doc/mp-grading

Also listings aren't time-based - once you list it it's there forever (until you sell it or manually delete it).

Listing is free - there is a fee attached to each item based on the price you sell it at that you get charged when it sells. Meaning there's also no fees on postage. The fee level is 8% from a minimum of $0.10 to a maximum of $150 (which would be like a $5,000 record so not likely). Also 2% cheaper than eBay.

The most expensive fee I've had is $1.10 (73p) on a £9.00 record.

ETA: you don't upload photos. All entries will have the appropriate cover art already in the system, although any obviously different features (like having a massive library sticker on the front that you can't remove) should be noted in the "details" box and be reflected in your grading of the CD/record and the sleeve/case

ETA2: the quickest way to upload is to search by catalogue number, as for some things there can be a dozen versions of it, y'know? At least if you use the catalogue number you can select the appropriate version.

It's also really good for finding out if you have any hidden gems, for example I have a pink floyd LP which is apparently worth £50 and a Neil young one which we only bought for my birthday in June for £35 is recommended at £80.

The pink floyd one I will list once I have fully inspected it and made sure it is in as good condition as I thought, the Neil Young one is definitely not going as I love it lol x

    lexbubbles, you're a star:A. Thank you:T

Can I ask how you mail vinyl to avoid damage in the post? Worry about packing them has stopped me selling vinyl online in the past:o
  • Aaaww, TheBanker, I don't think that comment was aimed at you. We all love you on here:kisses3:

I think/hope Procrastinater was referring to those at the very top of the banking world who were a big part of bringing the country to its knees, and lots of small savers/borrowers with it, yet got away with things that to all intents and purposes seem criminal. They still have their massive bonuses or golden handshakes when so many ordinary people don't know where to turn for enough money to survive:mad:.

I'm assuming you aren't one of those at the very top, TheBanker, as you're on the Make £10 a Day challenge?;)

Oh dear, I'm sounding very preachy this lovely morning:o. Have a great day, all:beer::beer:

    Exactly so CBC -

Sorry the Banker, if I upset you, that certainly wasn't my intention. x

I'm a cheapskate and hate paying for packing materials (also means I only have to charge the buyer the actual £3.30 posting fee) so this is what I do:

    1) Save any and all cardboard boxes (like, sturdy boxes not cereal boxes)
    2) Cut out 2x 12" cardboard squares to go either side of the record (or 7"/10" if that's the size you're mailing)
    3) Wrap the package in 3 bin-liners. 2 of them I cut along the bottom seam to open out and put either end then wrap like a present, and put the third one along the middle. Tape to oblivion (you should find that the 2 opened-out liners will cover the whole package. I just put a third one over the middle for a bit of extra lining)

Record mailers are just cardboard sleeves, so sticking it between 2 bits of cardboard does the same job. And mailer bags are just plastic like bin liners so y'know. I've never had any complaints.

If it's particularly valuable or you're extra worried, you can wrap some bubble wrap around it if you have some lying about.
