Not sure about BCA but with SMA to get a trade account you either need industry references or have to buy X amount of vehicles in X amount of time. It's simply to stop anyone from opening up a trade account, buying one vehicle, getting the trade discount then never buying again.

BCA have bought SMA so they maybe have all the same policies as bca
  • I wonder if mark is a trade dealer and just spreading misinformation for sharp buyers to avoid using BCA.

I would have actually preferred a fixed percentage, it looks like cheaper cars have disproportionally higher fees.

A 2008 caddy is likely to be 2500-2999 and the fees for that is £400

a £25K car has fees of just £921

£1000 + VAT is £1200. Then theres £331 in fees (inc VAT), a £26 documentation fee and 1.25% premium if you want to pay cash.

    £1576

So your £2999 caddy would be over £4k if you're not "sharp" enough to watch which one your bidding on.

A VW Caddy is a sought after van and cheap ones are rare , any at an auction i wouldn't touch with a barge pole.

So if you wanted one you'd only buy private from a known source?

any experience as to how they go in auction?

All vans are sought after and van prices in autotrader/private sale is high too. It's the market.

Limited supply + business asset + profit making vehicle = high sale price.

You can buy a golf on the same platform and engine as the caddy for £1800, the equivalent van will go for £5000.

Van prices are higher than they ever have been

I should really say '' clean, low mileage van prices ''

I used to be able to get low mileage 3/4 year old transits from BCA for a few grand. They now make over 5k

Supply and demand. If you want a good van, you have to pay for it. Buy cheap....buy twice

I live in suffolk and have visited and bought at the Manheim Auction site nr Colchester. I was going to get a Vw Caddy instead of car/Trailer but they were all way too expensive or very high mileage . They are a great van and retain their value incredibly . Even ones with 200k on them fetch stupid money . All other vans are poor compared , but then they are alot cheaper . Cars and vans at auctions are not the bargains people think they will get . Alright if you want something very basic and and a high volume seller .

for me it's worth paying a little bit extra for the van, van insurance can be as high as £2000 p.a. i's the same if your get a peugeot partner or a caddy. over 5 years you pay £10,000 in insurance so when you look at the whole motoring cost in the long term the purchase price is a small proportion.

I like the caddy because it's stylish and there is the option of bolting in an extra seat if needed (most likely have the seat stored in my workshop and used if needed).

the main reason is I can't afford to run a car and a van (two seperate insurance, road tax etc too expensive), so the van will be my only vehicle and the caddy look half decent.

The factory bumpers are a little crap, but a touran bumper is a direct fit and is a lot cleaner.

I've looked at the peugeot/citroen/renault/ford offerings and they're all ugly.

A hilux double cab would have been a good work/lifestyle vehicle, but the sotrage capacity (even with the tall rear roof) isn't much. I dont think there's much more storage in a hilax bed than a good sized estate.

Ironically, when you factor in the cost, Fords, Citroens/Peugeots are actually better vehicles.

Nobody would go crazy for a Transporter if it had a Kia badge on it!

After having owned a Berlingo (Multispace) for a couple of months now I can't really see why you would want to pay extra for a VW Caddy.

My only concern with the Berlingo/Partner would be that the engine has been well maintained if it is the 1.6HDi

The Transit Connect is also a decent vehicle and to my mind looks better than the over rated Caddy
I would have the old school 1.8 Tddi engine

Not sure what years that was or is available but it was a reliable if slightly agricultural engine.
