amazon scam

checked my bank account online today and saw that amazon had taken £79.99 out of my account when i rang them for an explanation they said it was for amazon prime i told them i had not registered for it , they said we sent you an email if you wanted a free trial i, i never responded to it but after 30 days of that email they took the money . they did say sorry and would refund the money as it was there mistake but the money they took put me overdrawn and now i may have penalties from the bank , in this case amazon a sorry is not enough as it will have cost me money. ahhhhhhh.

  • Hardly a scam. An error has occurred and they have admitted that and apologised.

What did Amazon say when you told them of the consequences of their error?
  • surely this has to be a scam as i posted this on facebook and found loads of people have had the exact same thing done to them so can not be an error when so so many people have had this done to them.
  • also said they would need proof of this so just waiting for my letter to come from the bank.
  • Errors/Mistakes happen.
So once Amazon have the proof from your bank, they are going to refund the charges?

Dosent sound like much of a scam to me.
  • never mind the ethics of taking someones money without permission there has to be some sort of recompense for this as it must be illegal to do it and an apology is not good enough
  • you only have to check on social media and this could amount to hundreds if not more that have had this happen to them so for me this is not an error , but we are all entitled to our own opinion .

Take your story to a tabloid newspaper, they are more likely to pick up on your belief that it's a scam than the sensible people on here are.
  • Helpful folk, ain't they?

    Here's a few mistakes by them so it's hardly a 'mistake' or a one-off. https://www.google.com/search?q=amazon+taking+money+for+amazon+prime+by+mistake&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

You can print off your bank statement online to speed things up. Also report to trading standards. The more complaints they get the more likely these 'mistakes' will stop.

I know too many people who have been hit by this "error" to surmise its not just a one off. It seems quite a common "error" they do, as quite a lot of people have been hit by this unfortunate "error".

Maybe Amazon needs to rethink who they employ in their IT departments, as it seems they constantly make this error, maybe its NOT far too common to seem coincidental, yet there are far too many of these "errors" to feel comfortable about it.

What exactly are you pointing to in the google result listings you posted? Majority of them seem to be people which have taken out the free trial and not cancelled it. IE - User mistakes and not Amazon mistakes
