Surprise bank balance....

I was very surprised that my claim was approved as I felt the assessment went very badly, and yes I was expecting it to take months to be sorted too.
Trouble is I will have trouble spending it as I am practically housebound, can't get out and about without help and suffer from anxiety and depression as well as my physical problems.
I am thinking of maybe seeing if I could get a cleaner to come once a week and do the major things so my daughter doesn't have to do everything
Spend it on anything you feel will make life easier...:)0 -
I live with my 17 year old daughter who is in 6th form at school and nobody gets carers allowance for me. Not sure if she could even claim it??
Not sure of your circumstances,

Have a read on that explains it all...0 -

Thanks, from reading that it seems I may be entitled to it. Well I filled in the form and sent it back so just wait and see now0 -
Anyone who is in full time education cannot claim Carer's Allowance but in your circumstances you will get the severe disability premium paid with your ESA instead. The amount of the premium is £61.85 per week while Carer's Allowance is £62.10 per week so the difference is only 25p per week.I live with my 17 year old daughter who is in 6th form at school and nobody gets carers allowance for me. Your severe disability premium should be backdated to the week from which you qualified for PIP (back in July) so there should also be arrears of ESA due to you.0 -
Ok if arrear payments from PIP and severe disability allowance take my bank balance over £6000 will I be penalised for going over the limit or will they take into account the reason why?0

Arrears of both PIP and income related ESA (of which the severe disability premium is part of) are disregarded as capital for 52 weeks from the date of payment of the arrears and so neither will count towards the £6,000 limit for the first 52 weeks.Ok if arrear payments from PIP and severe disability allowance take my bank balance over £6000 will I be penalised for going over the limit or will they take into account the reason why?0 -
Thanks for that Robbie64. I was starting to get a bit worried.
I have a few things I could buy but I'm hoping to be able to move from my maisonette into a bungalow in the not too distant future. It would make more sense I think to wait until then to make the purchases.0
