Finding account numbers

Hi all

An uncle just advised me how he used a company called 'Premium Recovery' and won back some miss sold PPI.

For some reason I just don't like claiming.. So have always ignored it.

Anyway things are changing and if I am eligible then today I will take the cash back!

I requested a call back from 'Premium Recovery' and they need all the account numbers.

I have had many debts over the last 15 years but I believe I can only consider the last 6 years?

In the last 6 years I have closed -
1 x store card
1 x mortgage (NRAM 125% Together)
1 x phone account
7 x Credit Cards
5 x Loan Accounts

I currently have open
1 x mortgage
3 x Credit Cards
1 x Loan
2 x Current Accounts

I shred old records so cannot find any old accounts numbers for the accounts closed. On Noddle (free) where I pulled the info gives me the last 4 digits but I guess this in no help to Premium recovery?

How should I proceed?

Cheers

Using a CMC does not aid you in any way. Its a just for you doing the work and them putting it in an envelope and posting it.

In most cases, you dont need account numbers. Name, address and date of birth will be fine (and past addresses if moved). Its only on older debts where the archive system is account number based where a number will be needed.

We can look into Barclay’s , Halifax and Bank of Scotland without the Account No’s.
As for the others unfortunately we would need the account no’s.

Your answer is to not use a CMC and do it yourself. Most banks/lenders do not require it.

  • The best way would be to just call round any lenders you had products with and ask them if any of them had PPI. As Dunstonh has said you only really need the account numbers for old products where they can't find you on the system. If you want to be really thorough you can send out DSAR requests but this will cost you £10 per lender.

A CMC will add nothing to this process or to any complaint generally. You would still have to do this even if you went with them. Once you have identified which products have PPI download a FOS Questionnaire, complete it in full for each product you wish to complain about and send it off. The lender will take it from there following whatever procedure they have in place. This will cost you nothing. A CMC will do nothing more than take this info from you and send it off themselves, charging a massive % of any redress for the privilege.

'I have had many debts over the last 15 years but I believe I can only consider the last 6 years?'

This is not correct. You can complaint about any PPI you feel was mis-sold regardless of how long ago the sale took place.
