Cost of a contact lense health check-up?

Presently getting contact lenses from a high street opticicians on a plan that includes free eye test and health check. They are hugely more expensive than the internet suppliers and even the likes of Asda and Specsavers.

So I wondered about getting the eye test and the lense health check from my current opticians and buying lenses elsewhere? Apart from their very high costs for lenses I'm very satisfied with them and their aftercare, don't really want to bother going elsewhere for this.

I think I've seen eye tests for around £15, so if I knew what a health check would cost then I could make a decision on whether to buy elsewhere or not.

Thanks..

Still wondered if anyone regularly does what I suggested and finds it satisfactory and of course money-saving?

I have been wondering this too as I am on a plan that is £25 per month and I am sure I can save money somewhere as I don't even go to optician that much!

Costco lens check/fitting & 1 year aftercare is £12.99, think you have to be a member though for this. they are very competitive on lenses though & solutions, if needed, are about half the price of elsewhere.

Mine is something like £22 a month. That's average for the many people I think. I go to an optician I trust and wouldn't change it though. Health is one of the things I'd not go out of my way to save money.

Fair comment on the health. I pay £20, but most people I talk to about this amount say they pay a fraction of this. Obviously if they have more complex prescriptions they may have to pay more. I'm sure I could save a couple of quid per week (£96 pa) if I shopped around. Then again why fix something thats not broken? Think the breaking point will be a possible increase (quite likely) of another £2, then I'm off ;).

I paid £15 once at Asda all aftercare and further checks since have been free, they're cheapest for my lenses as well.

I'm 15 a month exc solutions with specsavers. but I'm sure the lens store/vision express link up saves about £15 a quarter. I need to triple check all details...

I purchase monthly's and tend to buy about 6 months worth off the internet for around £50 including delivery. I don't wear lenses every day so each pair last about 2 months. I have a check up next week so I will find out how much it is and report back. I'm sure it must be cheaper though even if I did wear them every day. I use a local optometrist - we can get vouchers in work for Specsavers but I prefer to support local.

You can postpone your payments and contact lens deliveries for up to six months in any 12 month period. Please call the Boots Contact Lens Reward Scheme Team on 0345 603 2020 from 8am to 8pm on Mon - Fri, and 8am to 6pm on Saturday, or email contactlenses@boots-opticians.co.uk

I do this regularly. In practice I phone up to postpone payment for 6 months, then make one payment and then phone up again to postpone payment for a further 6 months. Never had a problem doing that. So in effect you are paying for 2 months in every 14.

I do it because I am an infrequent user of lenses so genuinely don't need so many, but you could get the lenses elsewhere and stay on the scheme.

Another benefit is the advantage boots points and 10% off any boots brand in store, that includes their own make up ranges.

I wear monthly extended wear disposables and cannot get my brand through my opticians any more as they have been discontinued so I get them through VisionDirect for less than half the price I used to pay. I still pay my optician £10.50 pcm for aftercare, checkups and it gives me a percentage off glasses and sunglasses.
