I'm not really expecting an answer to this but at least I can document the issue for others.
I have an HP 8300 Elite SFF desktop with a recent Windows 10 install. This has one set of USB3 ports.
I have a Kingston DT Rubber USB 3.0 thumb drive.
I have some other USB3 thumb drives.
If I plug the Kingsyon drive into a USB 2.0 port it is recognised and works.
If I plug it into a USB 3 hub plugged into a USB 3 port on the HP it works.
If I plug it into any USB 3 port on the HP it simply isn't seen - no messages no beeps nothing at all.
Other USB 3 thumb drives do work.
HP don't seem to provide any Windows 10 drivers for the machine. There are Windows 8.1 drivers but not for the USB 3 root hub. Windows 10 says the driver is up to date and working fort the USB 3 Root hub.
Somebody else reported the exact same issue with this model thumb drive on a chromebook and the consensus was it must be something screwy with the thumb drive which I agree must be the case - unless of course somebody knows different.....

I know it doesn't help, but I have a 7dayshop 64gb USB 3 key that does the same. It works on my laptop and USB2 slots but not the PC USB 3 slot
I solved it by buying another, as they're under £15 these days0 -
As I said I'm not really expecting an answer. As it's a new (to me) machine my first thoughts were that there was something wrong with the USB ports on it but now I think it's just that USB thumb drive playing up. I'm pretty sure I've used that stick in USB3 ports in a different machine. It's all very strange.0
