Help re Bosch Dryer

Options
Hello all,

I hope I can get some advice here.

I bought a Bosch Dryer in February 2013 for £600 from John Lewis. It came with a two year guarantee. Last week, it stopped drying, and I called out Bosch. The engineer arrived this morning, and apparently it is the compressor that had failed, and it can't be repaired.

Im sure I don't need to say how angry I am that this "quality" product has failed so soon. What I wanted to know is what my rights are? I have heard Martin Lewis on the radio saying that goods have to last for a reasonable amount of time, and be fit for purpose, etc. What would a reasonable amount of time be? What would be reasonable of me to expect Bosch to do?

I would like a replacement, although I don't suppose that is going to happen:(

Your rights are with John Lewis, not Bosch. Speak to JL and see what they say. They may ask you to get an independent report to establish whether the fault is inherent. If it is then they can offer you a repair, a replacement or a proportionate refund, taking into account the use you have had from the machine.

Before you call them, calm down a little. Anger doesn't tend to get the best response, calm and polite far more so.

Exactly ... you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. (So goes the old expression).

Its not the fault of JL that the machine has decided to not work.

Just out of interest whats the model number ?

Is the two year guarantee from John Lewis or from Bosch? If it's from Bosch then it may be worth checking the terms of the guarantee to see what it offers in the event of an unrepairable fault - it could be in excess of what JL are required to provide under SOGA.
  • Thank you all for your replies.... and yes, calm works better than angry :)

I called John Lewis first, just to see if it was still in warranty, as JL sometimes offer longer warranties on some items, and no, it was out of warranty, so they could not help.

    The warranty was through Bosch.

DCFC, the model number is WTW863SO Sensor Condenser.

Well.... I have had a call from Bosch, and they have said that they will replace it, free of charge, with no call out fee :) Apparently, this is because it was the failure of a major part, that should last for much much longer than it has done.

I must admit, that I am surprised and more than satisfied with their customer service, and well done to them:)

Thats good they have decided to replace it.

Just under an hour after you first posted.
  • Yes, DCFC, I made my first post while the engineer was still here, as I wanted to know what my rights were :)
