Missing Gas Supplier
Hi all. I'm posting this in behalf of a friend. He lives in a housing association property. About a year ago all the properties on his estate had various improvements done. One of these was the installation of a gas central heating and water heating system. I've subsequently discovered that my friend has been using the gas central heating system but has had no bills from any supplier. He doesn't recall signing anything and despite phoning his current electricity supplier and other suppliers, no one seems to be supplying his gas. His Housing Association appears to know nothing about it either. Yesterday I phoned the Meter Point Administration Service. It gave me his Meter Point reference number. The automated voice then said "Your gas supplier is...(brief silence)... Would you like to hear that information again?" I assume from that response that perhaps no one is supplying him gas. Is it possible that the gas supply to his house has been inadvertantly connected? Any suggestions? My friend has serious mental health issues and is becoming rather anxious about the situation. He would struggle if a bill arrived tomorrow especially as his electric is on a key card Meter. I suspect the bill wouldn't be huge however as it's a small mid terrace ground floor flat with new windows and insulation. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks.

Was there a gas supply to the property before the HA made the improvements? If not, then they must have/should have registered each property for a supply in order to test and commission the new CH and DHW system. So for them to say they 'know nothing about it' is simply not an adequate response. I'd also check with the neighbours in case others have a similar issue or can advise who the supplier is.
If not, his property is shipperless and the situation is more complex, as it may go back some years.
The back billing code only applies beyond a year back anyway and may not apply in this case if your friend has not endeavoured to obtain a bill.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks for the reply. He's been a tenant of the same flat for some years so there is no previous occupant. I did wonder about the HA's response. I'll have to phone them. I'll also suggest neighbours. Any thoughts on why the Meter Point Admin Service didn't give a supplier? Surely somebody must be responsible for the supply?

No one is responsible for the supply if it's shipperless, which is why no bill would have been sent. You haven't answered my query about whether the supply is new or not.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Hi. My apologies. There was no gas installation of any kind until last year. The gas supply to the village is only a year old.

Then the HA must have the details for the new supplier-presumably the same supplier for each property where the upgrade took place. The meter readings should have been recorded and agreed with your friend when the install was commissioned.
Speak to neighbours first for some clues, then to the HA again. Or post the MPRN and someone may be able to help you.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
