Does anyone know anything about integrated dishwashers?

We have just moved into our first house and were slightly unlucky in that the integrated dishwasher now has an issue. Basically, when you try and run a cycle it trips the power in the house - not ideal.
Anyway it is old anyway and we want to get a new one, but with it being integrated we are at a bit of a loss where to start. Is is the case that all you need to do is measure the size of it?
Will there be someone that can install it for us?
I would like to get it from John Lewis, but what I am concerned about is that we order the correct size, they turn up and then they say they can't install it for some reason. I can't see a reason why they wouldn't be able to but what happens if it is too complicated or something?
Can anyone help? I am so rubbish at all of this, but trying to learn.....:(

Dishwashers usually come in 2 sizes - standard or slimline. Just get the same size as the old one.
The only difference with an integrated appliance is that it has a cover fitted to the front to match the rest of the kitchen - the actual machine itself is standard. I had the same thing in my house - it had an integrated washer fitted when we moved in, when it needed replacing I just bought a standard one. OK, it doesn't "match" the rest of the kitchen, but then neither does the washing machine or tumble drier :-)
But ultimately, if you do want another integrated one then just order the same size as the existing one, and the installer will have no problems. To be honest it's pretty simple to install yourself, but if you're not confident about doing it then it's a very simple & standard job for any installer. Lots of retailers will offer a fitting service, or else if you have a local handyman they'll be able to do it for you.0 -
That is really useful. Thanks.0

Check the size of your gap - most are a standard size to fit in a 600mm base unit, but it never hurts to double check.
In terms of fitting there's hardly any difference between a freestanding and an integrated dishwasher: the plumbing and electrical bits are exactly the same (attach the hoses, plug it in). The main difference is you have to attach an integrated machine to the units/worktop and fit the door to the front - but the manual should have full instructions.
We installed ours ourselves and found the only bit which was a tad tricky was fitting the the door to the front (it wasn't difficult, it was just the first time we'd done it so we wanted to make sure we got it right). If you're going to have someone install it make sure they understand its an integrated one and ask them whether they'll also fit the door.0 -
Yes I think I will. Don't really fancy doing it myself also!0

So I googled the width of my current Indesit dishwasher. 59.5. Some I have seen are 59.8. Surely a 59.8 would still fit, I mean I can't imagine 3mm would make a difference would it?0

Yep, any standard "full-size" dishwasher would fit. 600mm is the "standard" size for pretty much all kitchen units, cupboards and appliances. As you say, different models will vary by a few mm, but they're all designed to fit into a standard 600 mm space.0
