Stopping Epson printer xp322 printer auto updating firmware?

Options
Hi folks,

Just bought an Epson xp-322 printer at Asda for £30 just want to make sure that it doesn't automatically update its firmware, as I want to use it with all the cheap inks from ebay, as I understand a firmware update could stop this.

Does anyone with a similar model know if I need to take any steps to prevent this or if the printer will try to auto update the firmware itself?

Thanks very much indeed for any help in this.

The operators manual on page 89 tells you how to update software and firmware, which suggests to me it is a manual operation. The printer has to be connected to Internet before it can update, so check out the steps in the manual with NO Internet connection to see what options you are given.

Since it's a wireless printer, I imagine it would try to connect to the internet to download the firmware -- so don't let it. Just create a firewall rule on your router to only give it local network access.

I have an XP-225. It does warn you that the cartridges are not genuine quite often and it did that as soon as I fitted compatibles.

It gives you the option to update firmware and/or drivers. As there are compatibles on sale and it was warning already I took the chance of letting it update and it still works just fine.

I think Epson took so much flack over the printer model they did cripple that they have thought better of it and stuck to nagging rather than crippling.

    Of course YMMV.
