where on earth did yahoo suddenly come from??
If you have Java installed, it might have been as a result of the recent Java security update. There is a tick-box on the update prompt which, if ticked, will change your browser homepage to Yahoo. The box is rather cheekily ticked by default:

  • Thanks all.
I'm using Firefox and thought I was only downloading MS updates, not Java but hey ho.

It will have been the Java update that Yahood up your machine.
I think its discraceful how a reputable company performs drive by downloads and homepage changes
It is the bain of my life at the moment with users rampantly updating Java and not un-ticking the yahoo option.

Tip for the future : Watch what you are clicking "yes" to

In a way you can't blame Java for cutting a deal with Yahoo to push their "service" out with free updates that users innocently/unwittingly accept. Microsoft have pushed stuff (IE, Bing etc. etc.) upon its users for years - and largely got away with it, but not always! :)
I do agree it's disgraceful though...

I'd suggest that the OP removed the Java Runtime Environment and see if anything objects. It can rapidly be reinstalled if there's a "missing Java" problem.
