howdens quote on a kitchen

Just had this quote for a kitchen, is it a good or bad quote? im not sure??

if i get it this week in the sale it is £4950 for the kitchen and £2620 for the appliences

I'm in the same position, have been in discussion re plan for the past few weeks and hopefully the builder will get back to us with a quote tonight. Apparently the sale finishes on Friday and units need to be collected by Saturday to get the sale price.

I find it all a bit strange though to be honest. Howdens will only give a quote to the builder, and then the builder quotes you. Have a look here:

It's an old thread but essentially it seems that Howdens give the builders a 70-80% discount on their prices. They sell to trade only and therefore there's no way of knowing whether your builder is passing all of his discount on to you unless you see his original quote from Howdens.

We had no idea it operated this way - we have a personal connection to the builder and have no idea if he's doing us any favours lol!

He did say though that their appliances are overpriced and recommended sourcing our own, if that helps any.

Another tip on there was that they have monthly sales targets and so end of the the month is the best time to haggle lol.

Yes, Howdens only deal with trade. F you have any problems with their units you can not deal direct with Howdens yourself as the contract is between you and your builder. Is Vat included in that quote, VAT is not included in trade to trade quotes.
My builder had 80% off the prices and a few pieces put in at £1, my builder let me pay the amount he had to pay do he had no problem showing me the invoice.

Howdens sent the quote straight to me as they got in touch with my fitter who said he was giving it to me at trade cost. Just seems a bit expensive. Got told it has to be delivered this week to get it in the sale.

In that case you probably have a good deal. Howdens supply assembled units so the unit cost will seem high in comparison to Ikea/Wickes and the like, but your fitting costs should be less as there is less work involved

Ok, make sure you get 80% off. They started us at 60 and I refused until I got 80% (we got it through a builder friend).
Don't get appliances from Howdens - they have very bad reviews. For extractor fan/ sink etc get it from Screwfix. Appliances from ao/ currys seem to be the best deals.

Following on... we had an estimate this evening from our builder 'friend'.

Now admittedly it's not straightforward as we are knocking through to make two rooms into one (builder brother not local but seems to think this element would be in the region of £1500)

So for that plus supply and installation of 24 units, moving a boiler, supplying and installing a new radiator and associated electrical and plumbing work.... £22K lol

He's having a laugh - this doesn't even include worktops, let alone appliances and flooring!

OP if you've found a fitter who is honest enough to pass on his trade discount I'd be very thankful!

Why does any trade have to pass on their trade discount and why imply they are dishonest if they dont ?

You dont go into a supermarket and expect to get it at what they pay for it do you so dont see how this suddenly applies to trades.

We are knocking down chimney breast, putting steel beam over it to support second floor, knocking down a wall to make 2 rooms 1 room to make kitchen diner and knocking down a small wall to open entrance to kitchen then building a shower room inside kitchen. All cost £14000. Not including kitchen units though. I havent decided where from to get my kitchen yet

I woudn't pay much attention to what it says on a howdens invoice concentrate more on whether what they are doing for you is what you want, whether it is competitively priced and within your budget.

What profit someone makes is irrelevant, especially since the price you see on the invoice may be inflated and you would never know if it was or wasn't because howdens don't sell to people like you.

A kitchen fitter putting some on the supply of the goods is just normal for time taken to sort them out and the fact that no one buys and sells something for free, whether they say they are or not, they're not.

It's similar to how companies like tesco used to sell kitchens and advertise free fitting, the fitting wasn't free, it was in with the price of the goods.

It is all marketing bs.

Is it what you want? Is it competitively priced?

You have missed the sale now, we got a good deal in the sale but not everyone does.

Glancing at your quote the appliances seem over the top.

Lamona is good for single 50 something men that turn their hob and cooker on a few times a week. Saying that, though, we have never had a come back on them.
