Good cheap place to buy veg seeds online?
Options
My son wants to have a go at growing veg - can anyone recommend somewhere online that sells cheap but reliable basic veg seeds - nothing fancy!
He lives miles from me (near Stoke on Trent - I'm in Dorset) so I can't be around to supervise his efforts hence the need for something fairly foolproof!

You don't say how old your son is. There will be gardening clubs local to him, and plenty of advice. Maybe a neighbour can teach and encourage him. Look at websites such as the Kitchen Garden magazine.
For cheap seeds - all of the shops which sell them are selling them off at the moment. There is also Freecycle for seeds books and equipment.
At this time of year he can't grow much from scratch. Mixed Salad leaves is one which can grow in a pot on the windowsill and be eaten after just a short time. (His family must declare that it's the best thing they have ever eaten!)
Winter is the time for deciding what to grow and learning how to do it, before getting it all going in the Spring. A book about Allotments is a very good source of information.
He's got such an enjoyable time ahead!0 -

The cheapest seeds you can get is from Wyevale garden centres. If you join their members gardening club which is free you can purchase all seeds at 50p a packet. Some seeds that are £5.99 are still 50p. Bargain. I get mine every year and save pounds.
I know you asked for cheap seeds online but I thought the info might be of use to you and other money savers on here.

That's good to know, Edwink! I'm a Wyevale club member and wasn't aware of this. Do you know if this is on-going, or for a limited period of time?

My local Wyvale has a clear out around this time of year, getting Christmas stuff in, normally all packets are chucked in a bin and you have a good old rummage

Thanks everyone. My son is 28, but he's never got around to learning to drive so getting to garden centres can be difficult. Hence the online shop request.
I'll be using the info about Wyvale myself, though! Thank you!
I'll tell him to look out in Lidl where he often shops.
I thought maybe he could plant a few broad beans to give himself something to look forward to, and he's made a makeshift cold frame so I am hoping he might be able to get a crop of salady leaves if the weather doesn't get too cold. I want to encourage him while he's in the mood!0 -

Maybe I will get shot down for this but I planted roughly 20 potatoes which were in a bag of eating potatoes but they'd sprouted, so in effect they were free I'd have thought they have to be one of the easiest to have success with. I also did beetroot last year and they were fairly easy.0
