Dodgy car sold by dealer, court case opened!

  • All of those things say "this car is old".

Brake disks and pads wear out, that is how they work. They wear out faster now since asbestos was banned from friction material as the discs had to be made softer to cope. You should budget on replacing them on any second hand car you buy. Exhausts the same, they are normally made of mild steel and water condenses in them which makes them rust. Oil weeping from gaskets on a >100k miles engine is also very common. So, nothing unexpected on a car that old.

Water getting in is another "old car" thing, seals are typically rubber and have a life.

Perhaps the court will disagree, but all of that lot looks like "this is an old banger" to me. I speak as someone that drove a rather older banger in to work this morning!

  • I don't as I have no knowledge about cars and I didn't know I had to look for water ingress in the electrical system ....well I suppose it's a lesson learned! Although, before this car, I had a Peugeot 206 2001 with almost 200000 miles and drove abroad with it (haven't driven anywhere with Vauxhall apart from work and home) and never had a problem with it, so I suppose it's just luck....
  • the only "proof" I have is that other people have posted on his Facebook page complaining that they bought dodgy cars from him, but I suppose court won't take that into consideration...ive only seen that recently otherwise I wouldn't have bought a car from them knowing that...

And rightly so, however if you can contact these people and obtain real evidence that's another matter.
  • They have offered before to give statements but once the case has actually gone to court and a hearing was set, I have asked them for statements but they have now backed down.....
  • So in that case you don't have that evidence.

What evidence will you be taking?

Did you ask the Vauxhall garage to state whether in their opinion any of the damage they worked on was present 7 months previously? That would be ideal.

No chance of winning this, if it had of happened a week later than maybe but not 7 months. Get rid of car, buy new one move on

Alternatively replace a couple of weather seals and maintain the car from now on ?
