Redundancy & Pensions

My company announced last week that it will make a large number of people redundant. It will soon be starting the process & will be asking firstly for volunteers.
I am 57 & have 37 years service so would also be eligible to take a final salary pension.
I need to know if VR could be classed as leaving at the company's request or if it would be leaving with the company's consent?
According to the pension scheme rules, the consent option (ie being classed as if I asked to leave & they said OK) results in my pension being reduced. But leaving at their request (ie, they have asked me to consider going & I have agreed) would allow me to receive pension based on my full service.
The reduction would probably make the difference as to whether or not I could go.
I will probably find out the answer in the next few weeks when HR & the Unions get fully involved But would like to be able to start some calculations now if anyone can help.

I can only speak from the public sector as I have been made redundant, recently. I my situation we were told that voluntary redundancy and compulsory redundancy resulted in the same redundancy pay. The difference was more about how they dealt with competing for the remaining ring-fenced posts being offered.0

Thank You for the reply. I am more concerned about how I would be classed regarding my pension. Although I realise that any redundancy pay out may be quite substantial, it is a short term matter compared to taking a reduced payment which lasts forever.
Should I have posted this in the Pensions & Annuities Forum?0
