I'd go down to the local computer fair on saturday or sunday.

If you have not been to one before I think you will be amazed at the selection of components available and the prices charged.

My local one is at the National Motor Cycle Museum near Birmingham on a Saturday.

    Very freindly and helpful people.

    Enjoy

Just make sure you only buy from known companies that have a shop..Get a reciept. DO NOT BUY HDD's FROM THE LONELY GUY's YOU SEE THERE.

get down to aria, https://www.aria.co.uk, it's just down the road from sportcity. their prices are really good. and it's much easier picking stuff up than waiting about for delivery.

Hello everyone, I want to buy a new pc but not from one of the High Street "fantastic package deal" type of retailers Tiny/PC World etc...as I made that mistake when I bought my first pc from Time! :o
Although I am not an advanced techie..I do feel sufficiently confident enough to assemble/build my own PC as I've made various upgrades/modifications on this machine I'm using now. I want to end up with something top-end high spec 64 bit etc and can handle latest gaming requirements. Would it be better to self-build or have made or "off the shelf"?
Can anyone point me in the direction of some websites that give advice/tutorials on this and maybe links to sellers of components etc?
    Any ideas/suggestions much appreciated.

    Hi,

Would recommend http://www.buildfromscratch.me.uk/frame4.htm. Doesn't cover top-end high spec but should guide you in the right direction.

    Best Regards.

  • I built the PC I'm talking to you on in February. The first time I hade ever done anything like that. It was really rewarding and I learnt a bit too, even though things went smoothly first time. try https://www.microdirect.co.uk. Their after sales service is a bit rubbish but providing nothing goes wrong (they sent me the wrong colour DVD-RW) they're prices are pretty cheap! You can sometimes pick up legit unbranded (i.e. not stamped with Dell) Windows XP off ebay. I now own a top end (apart from graphics, thats expensive) PC for a little over £500 including a 17" TFT monitor, P4 3.2 Ghz, 120GB HDD, 1GB RAM DVD ROM & DVD -RW, Card Reader etc. I know exactly whats in it, and I'm pretty sure I can troubleshoot it if it goes wrong.......(touching wood frantically)
