Moving house - Eon tariffs
Hi all,
I'm moving house this week and have been told the current supplier is Eon. I know I need to give them meter reads straight away but want to avoid them putting me on their standard tariff until I work out our average usage.
Could anyone recommend what tariff I should ask them to out me on to start with? Ideally an online only would be best.

Morning gorners and welcome.
You're correct in saying the first thing to do is to contact us when you first take responsibility of the property let us have your details, meter reads etc.
Then you can have a talk through the tariff's with us and pop your usage in one of the comparison sites and see what going to be best for you.
Do let me know if you need me though, always happy to help

I had the same thing when I moved 6 months ago.
Phone them up straight away. They ask a slightly leading question along the lines "would you like us to put you on our cheapest tariff" but be clear that you want to be able to leave at any time with no exit fees. Their variable deal is called E.ON EnergyPlan.
Give them your readings and be very clear on the date you moved in - they were very keen for me to pay up for the previous owner's unpaid bill!
Then get on the price comparison sites and find the right deal. You can switch to it as normal.
Remember if you do commit to a fixed term you can change it to the variable tariff within the cooling-off period (I think it's 2 weeks but please check) so no harm done.
When you're on the call they'll do an estimate of your energy usage and (in my experience) it's pretty eye-watering. Here's my tip: as soon as you can, go onto their online account management and go to direct debit. It'll re-calculate your DD and they'll suddenly want a lot less than they did a few days earlier! That's happened twice for me now; I have no idea where those crazy numbers they come up with on the phone are from!0 -
