Extractor Fan Query

Hi all,
Just moved into a new flat and there's a brand new extractor fan above the hob. The problem is that there's a block of polystyrene packaging inside the fan that needs removing before first use, and the light bulb is still in the box inside the fan.
Is it safe for me to do the above myself, or do I need to wait to ask the landlord to do it?

Is there an instruction book telling you what to do?
If not ask the landlord if it's ok for you to do this or does he want to come round.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0
