British Gas smart meter monitor
Hi,
I recently had my meters upgraded to smart meters and I was just wondering if anyone had worked out what all the 'Settings' do in 'Menu' as the user manual doesn't mention that section at all?
Also, has anyone tried running the monitor via batteries, how long do the batteries generally last?
Thanks
Ninko

I inform customers that the batteries will last around a week, The cost of the unit per year is about £4. There isn't much I don't know about the IHD.
You have your tarrifs, which tell you what your tarrif per kilowat hour is.
Message system, Where BG can send you messages (under utilised)
Alerts, This will tell you if there is something wrong. (not often)
Demo mode, As it says, it will tell you about the monitor and show you as you read the description, handy tool to get used to the monitor.
Gas/elec meter, this just confirms your gas and electric meter serial numbers.
You can get the meter readings from the IHD as well.
You can also adjust the value of the 'budget' screen. This can make your potential energy savings harder or easier to achieve.
If you have any specific questions, then ask away, I am happy to help.0 -
Any idea why my smart meter is showing a large spike in elec usage at midnight every night even though everything is off and we're in bed? Is it the standing charge being applied?0

It could well be the standing charge, its only 26p a day so should be no more than this.0

Fridge /freezers are always switching on and off throughout the night, not especially at midnight tho0

There is a way to see if its usage or something the monitor is just displaying.
If the spike is at the same time, look at the cost, if its more than say 13p, Your meter should have registered another digit to the reading.0
