My dog has started to snore, ideas?

Any changes in terms of collar, bedding, or weight gain? My Rottie x has a thyroid issue which can cause weight gain when her levels are low, her snoring increases when she's carrying a few extra pounds, especially if her collar is sitting a bit snug (she now has a martingale style which sits looser). Also notice she snores more if she sleeps her with her hanging off the edge of her bed, if she moves then it can reduce or stop it for that moment.0

Thanks kyrlyr, she is her normal slim self (nice waist, can feel ribs but not see them). She is currently lying in front of the fire on the hearth rug, sleeping and silent. Her collar is a U.S. Kennel Club padded one (brought back by a friend, we are in the UK), fitted at most 2 years ago and she hasn't changed size since, but I will check when she wakes or before morning walk, whatever comes first).
She just put her head up, so checked her collar. I can get four fingers under it (laterally) with no stretching. She wears a made-for-her 5mm leather slip lead as she does not pull, it's always slack when we walk along the lane and we walk to a place she can be off lead (she knows and stops when it's lead-off time). After the collar check it was time to return to her bed behind my husband's chair... Still silent.“And all shall be well. And all shall be well. And all manner of things shall be exceeding well.”

Today she will be coming to work with me as the vet is very nearby. Paws crossed all will be well. The odd thing is it doesn't happen when out on walks, but I noticed she was breathing through her mouth earlier. So, seems not to be exercise related and she still loves her walks.“And all shall be well. And all shall be well. And all manner of things shall be exceeding well.”

We went to the vet this morning on the way to work. As she has vet stress (big time) and as I had no appointment I left her in the back of the 4wd while waiting for her name to be called. She walked through the waiting room nicely and then went berserk as she got in the consultation room, trying to get out, barking and crying - so plenty of energy.
I hoisted her on to the table and held her while the vet checked her heart, lungs and throat.
He said "this is a healthy dog, she may have allergic rhinitis, I'd give her Piriton". I asked the dosage and he said one tablet twice a day. We're going to try it...“And all shall be well. And all shall be well. And all manner of things shall be exceeding well.”

I was thinking along the lines of allergies and Piriton before I got to the end of your thread (not that I am a vet ...)
If you find Piriton helps then , as my vet suggested, it is cheaper to buy in a human pharmacy but don't tell them it's for a dog as they won't sell it to you. You don't have to buy the 'Piriton brand' either there are cheaper generic brands which are slightly cheaper just make sure it's the same active ingredient (chlorpheniramine 4 mg ) (I may have mis-spelt check the packs )Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20 -
Thanks oystercatcher. I've asked my husband to pick some up as I'm at work (with little dog) and I don't want to leave her in the car with the car unlocked while I buy some. The only issue with that may be that he may mention it's for a canine! (Or alternatively, as he is on so much medication for his heart condition they may actually realise that it's not for him/not good for him/whatever.) In any case, tomorrow at the latest we can try this and see i it helps.“And all shall be well. And all shall be well. And all manner of things shall be exceeding well.”

So, with the assistance of a bit of pork chop, I gave her a tablet last evening. Seems to have helped but my word she was quiet this morning on our walk! I think I'll make it half a tablet twice a day and see if that's enough.“And all shall be well. And all shall be well. And all manner of things shall be exceeding well.”
