I have heard that Bosch are being sued by a different vacuum cleaner manufacturers as they have been (allegedly) fiddling the electric use ratings tests.
i.e. their A rated stuff might not be in real life.

I've not heard that. Please can you provide a citation.
I have read that Mr Dyson has accused other vacuum cleaner manufacturers of dirty tricks, but I haven't seen anything about one manufacturer suing another over it.
Here is the article I read: .0 -
To be honest, does it matter? Just because they attempted to try and cheat an emissions test doesn't mean they produce cheap products.
It certainly won't put me off buying VW.
I do my best to cheat the parking meter / traffic warden to avoid paying for parking
If my bank made an error in my favour I wouldn't own up
If a shop under charges me on a product I wouldn't own up
Everybody cheats one way or another. If you don't then you're a liar0 -
Bosch are already up to their necks in it alongside VW - They co-develop and manufacture under contract much of the emission-control hardware for VW and other car manufacturers.

"To be honest, does it matter?"
Yes. Why would you accept products where the manufacturer has lied about the specification?
If Bosch have fiddled any aspect of their product specifications I will never buy another one of their products.
Companies getting away with lying to consumers is never, ever going to be a good thing for consumers.0 -
Things may have changed but when ratings first came in for domestic appliances, no washing machines could get an "A" rating for wash performance. So they had to develop a washing programme that would meet that rating, & put it on their machines. So machines had all their usual programmes, which took about an hour, & the "A" rated programme that took about 2 hours. So then every machine had an "A" rated programme but no one ever used it.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

The biggest problem is the way the standards are written. Manufacturers now have to make products to pass tests, this means that they will do whatever it takes to get a good result.0
