I've also had loads of these e-mails. If it helps you might want to try a free anti-spam program called ChoiceMail. It puts a filter between the server and your PC, so all e-mails go into ChoiceMail first. Then you view them all and decide which ones you want to accept, and which you want to reject. Once an e-mail is rejected it goes straight into the reject box if another one is sent from the same address. Sometimes I get 30+ e-mails go directly to the reject box! This box can be viewed so no wanted e-mails get rejected by mistake. The best thing about this is that all images, attachments, etc are disabled, and all the senders details are displayed, so it's safe to look at the message without anything nasty getting onto the computer.
Googling ChoiceMail will get you a variety of websites to download from; I used one called MajorGeeks (or MajorGeek) .com, which has a load of free programmes for all sorts of things.0 -
Not sure if this is in the right place, but as it involves fake registrations, I thought it relevant to us compers.
I've started getting lots of emails (the last one was from a supposed cat lovers site) giving me a temporary password, and registration number, and asking me to change the details within 24 hours.
I haven't clicked through, as my security told me the link was to a wellknown phishing site, but I was nearly taken in, as I can't always remember which sites I've registered with when entering competions.
So just wanted to warn everyone, especially anyone new to this, to watch out.
Me too, about 10 a day for the last week (wonder which comping site has sold our details?) - but to be fair, if you KNOW you haven't joined them, you would a) have to be silly to even open them and b) are probably too stupid to be allowed on the net on your own

And me and I haven't even entered any competitions for weeks apart from Pigsback ones. They are on my private e mail too which is normally spam free as I use a hotmail one for comps, freebies etc. Mainly e cards and annoying things. At least 4 a day for the past few weeks now.0

I've also been getting the benefits wizard spam, about 10-15 a day! Hotmail's spam filter isn't exactly effective - you'd think 4 or 5 identical emails within a few minutes should go in the spam folder, but no. It wouldn't normally bother me as I just delete them, but for the last month I've been using my mobile to check emails which is slow enough without having to go through pages of spam!Over the last week i have been inundated with junk emails, especially from something called 'reward confirmation' saying i have won all sorts of things (i haven't by the way, you click through and then you have to complete offers) on the bottom of the emails it says 'benefits wizard' and you have to click to unsubscribe from the emails. However, it only unsubscribes you to that particular email, not all of them, and you then get about 20 more! It's starting to really annoy me!
Funny though, when I google benefits wizard spam the only mention I can find of them is this thread and another one on the vnunet forum.0 -
I used to get emails from I think the benefits wizard site (is it the one with a little icon of a top hat). I got loads, but managed to unsubscribe to them all, not had any since.0

I registered for a freebie before reading other posts to find it was Canadian spam. Inundated with sex pills etc 20 - 30 a day and cant unsubscribe from them.. Cant remember site but later saw post saying don't touch it. Maybe someone can remember who posted it to warn others.0

I've been getting ones using my full name and also a password I regularly use for comping. Quite worrying.I've been lucky, I'll be lucky again. ~ Bette Davis0
