Clydesdale Bank no record of agreement

My friend wrote to the Cyldesdale bank re his PPI. He could show payments being paid regularly from his account via his bank statements but he had no record of the policy agreement. The Cyldesdale said there was nothing they could find either & his claim would not be processsed.

Is there anything he can do? The original agreement is likely pre 2005.

Be grateful for any advice.

A monthly payment to PPI is how PPI should be set up. Standalone plans have a much lower success rate on complaints. One of the reasons is that they are not bundled into the debt. So, there would be no "agreement" as the PPI would not appear on the agreement.

He can provide copies of his statement showing the payment being made.

However, is it possible that the premiums are not PPI but perhaps life assurance (and/or critical illness cover and/or income protection)?
Or is it a policy that was put in place by a third party (such as a broker or adviser)?

Does he have any bank statements showing when the loan was paid in? If his current account is held Clydesdale Bank, they have already admitted they hold some records going back twenty years, e.g. transaction histories which show the amounts for loans, PPI charges and often the loan reference number.

They have probably disposed of the loan agreement and may not have an image on microfilm either. I successfully reclaimed all my PPI from this bank with only transaction histories as evidence.
