tekharmor virus

Options
We recieved a free Toshiba laptop with our Sky subscription, it has Windows 10 on it. Its been really good except I dont really like Windows 10 as when I'm browsing the web, it will often just take me to a page I've hovered over, but not clicked on. As a result I now have this virus. I was just about to pay for my Macafee subscription on it after the free trial ended too.
So I'm stuck on a blank page on explorer with the name of this virus in the address bar. The message which is also audible, says to call a number to fix - obviously won't be doing that. But because I cannot disconnect from the web, close any windows or get the laptop to do anything else, I cannot even turn it off, I can't reboot it in safe mode to try to sort it out.
Can anyone help me sort this out please?

Are you able to log out? If you can log out, do so, then press shift while clicking on the shutdown icon, choose reboot, this will then restart with recovery options. You can do a system restore to take it back a few days, or do a system refresh which will wipe all your software except windows 10 and windows store apps.

I wouldnt bother buying mcafee, malwarebytes professional would be a better investment.

If you are able to take it back a couple of days and then get on the internet, download adwcleaner and malwarebytes do a scan and clear with both.

infection, or website, if the latter, close/kill the browser

malwarebytes is not a replacement for antivirus, its a supplement.

avast free or bitdefender free are cheaper than mcafee

I cannot do anything. I can't log out in order to reboot. When I click on the red X in the top right corner, nothing happens, everything is frozen & stuck where it is, As I said, I can't even switch the laptop off or disconnect from the web.

Thanks, control alt delete worked! However I'm now trying to install Bullguard but can't seem to uninstall AVG free which is also on laptop. Trying itnin control panel, I suspect I may still have gremlins.
  • go to services and task manager and stop AVG

run AVG removal tool (32 or 64-bit dependant on your version)
    http://www.avg.com/gb-en/utilities.tpl-mcr8

    and the McAfee removal tool
    http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS101331

run windows disk cleanup, then don't do Bullguard, do avast or bitdefender free versions instead ;)
