can't access credit report

Hi all, I've decided I needed to see my credit report as I need to start getting my life back on track.
I first applied via noodle as they are free, however after going through the verification process they said one of the answers I provided were incorrect (I'm fairly sure it wasn't but they currently aren't open for me to contact them)
I then noticed experian has a free trial at the minute so as I've previously had my report off them I thought I'd try them but as I'm a previous customer they just wanted to resign me with no free trial.......errrrmmmm currently don't have and don't want to pay £14-£15 if I can get it for free elsewhere.
So I've lastly tried equifax, I've never used them before so thought I would be ok with a free trial.
Again I needed to go through verification questions, one of which asked if I had a card applied for and issued in august 2012 from one of the above and listed various places but also with an option to click none of the above (which I did) as I never applied for or was issued a card in august 2012.
After this it asked for my bank details and then afterwards it stated that it could not verify me online and that if I wished to proceed I would need a verification code sent by post or to phone them when they are open.
Obviously I've taken the reference number they have given me and I will contact them tomorrow however as I've now been stopped by two separate companies because of verification issues should I be worried.
My main concern is that I had a nasty split with my long term partner in 2013, I'm concerned that he may have used the information he knows about me to either access my reports and change some of the info held or has actually took out credit in my name.
Obviously I'll hopefully find out more tomorrow but has anyone else had issues with verification when using noodle or equifax.
BTW I've lived at my current address for 14 yrs and I'm on the electoral register so I don't think it would be something like that causing issues.
