Roadside parking around moorfields and pall mall are free after 6:30pm which is great for late openings on thursdays. Also I think the carpark outside the museum is free after half 6?

Thanks for the replies. I went ther on Weds daytime into afternoon for my graduation. Managed to find parking at the side of a road just by the Uni of L'pool, was 4 hours free!

Could you maybe have a look at google maps and point me in the direction of the road please? "Liverpool University" seems to be spread over many buildings on different roads. Thanks.

The main university area is off Renshaw Street/Leece Street/Grove Street.
Both the University of Liverpool and John Moores University have their main campuses just off those roads.
Do a google maps search of those streets and also the two cathedrals (the big traditional L'pool cathedral and the modern metropolitan cathedral AKA 'Paddy's Wigwam') and you're in the right area.
If you can, it may be advisable to do a dry run of the streets in the area before you have to actually park there or otherwise get there in plenty of time to find a free spot and get your bearings.
As you can see from the map, you'll be very close to the city centre. I would say at most a 20-25 minute walk, though probably less.
From that area, the best way to get to the centre is walking down Renshaw Street or Bold Street- use Liverpool Central Station, the Adelphi Hotel and the Clayton Square Shopping Centre as your main landmarks...once you see any one of those, you are basically in the very city centre.
From there, all the top attractions are well sign-posted and most scousers are pretty helpful and willing to give directions (but listen carefully if you're new to the accent, hee hee!)
    Hope this has helped anyway!:)

I park in the Costco/Toys 'r us carpark for absolutely nothing. It takes about 5minutes to walk into the city centre.

Not sure if the carpark is regulated, but I park there a lot and have never had a ticket etc.

My friend works in Costco and they have just employed a new firm to clamp non-customers...
  • If you go down Dukes Street - heading towards town - on the left hand side there is car park (next to the Mayur Indian restaurant). It is just an off road car park with black metal gates around it. There are signs that say clamping in effect but I have parked there everytime I have gone into town and the worst thing I have had is a note on my windowscreen telling me not to come back.

Up to you if you want to take a chance.
