Which type of exterior door?

We need to replace our outdoor toilet door (now being used for storage in our garden). Most of the quotes have been for a framed, ledged and braced door but the last person suggested a flush plywood exterior fire door with a weather drip fitted at the bottom to stop it rotting (which was a problem with the last one). It's cheaper but I don't know if there's a good reason for this.

We don't want to spend a fortune on this, but at the same time, we want it to last.

Any thoughts?

  • Don't go for an exterior ply door .They have very thin veneers and the glue that holds them together is not waterproof and I will guarantee it will delaminate sighing 2-3 years. A framed, ledged and braced door is a good option preferably made of hardwoods such as Iroko,Sapele or Douglas Fir but try and steer clear of shop bought redwood pine ones as they can be unstable, twist, warp and swell up.
