plex media or simaler

Options
looking at getting a new tv,
48-50" smart and possibly 4k (eye sight going)
i currently have 38" LG
and stream from my pc with plex media ,
streaming from the pc would be the most important thing for me,
so on plex website LG is not actually listed in there list of manufacturers but obviously works with windows .
my question is
there are new makers on the market offering cheap tv at the spec id like, but will they work with plex or is there an alternative to plex that also works very easily
thanks

I can be wrong, but I think one has to have a really good eyesight to notice from a distance the difference 4K makes.

I have Plex media server running on my PC. I have the Plex app on my phone. I have a Chromecast plugged in to the TV.

If I want to play something from my PC I do so via the app on my phone and cast it to the TV.
  • yes they will strean audio or vid from another location , pc , nas or plug in media

google amazon fire , xbmc (old name for kodi) , the amazon fire , either the "dongle" or the "box" TV are easily side loaded , and are a cheap method of using xbmc

Plex is available (to purchase) for some Sony TVs. If Plex on your TV is a must, goto the Plex website which I'm sure will lead you to the manufacturers and models that support it...

Surely the TV will just be able to stream directly from the PC anyway. Mine can and it's a few years old...

Maybe, and shaun40400 has confirmed that it has DLNA which is helpful, but it's still a maze of compatible and incompatible file formats, and the TV might just 'say no' for any random video you want to play if it isn't exactly right.
Plex is more flexible and can encode and decode so that everything on the server will play on any client. And it's a much nicer interface than most TVs have.
