Need help sorting out my credit file!

Hi,
New to this forum please dont judge!

Looking for advice really. To cut a long story short got stuck with around 15 credit accounts 3 of which are ccjs and 12 defaults all around 4 years old. Mainly from a past relationship. I appreciate its my fault and i got myself into this mess but just at my wits end. Im obviousley older now and would like a mirtgage in the future so want to start cleanin my credit up. Just not sure where or how to start!

If i cant afford to pay all of this off by the end of the default date will i get another default? Does the account just dissapear regardless of what the end balance is? For example if i owe 1000 and default due to drop off in 3 months. Say i paid 100 a month then 700 would be left, what happenes to the account with the 700? Does that disapear and then come back again for another 6 years?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Total debt is around the 7500 for the defaults and approx 2000 for the ccjs.

Welcome to MSE. Hopefully not too many people will be judgemental, although you get a few, so please ignore any trolls and don't take it personally, most people are here to help.

Firstly CCJ's will run for six years from the date they were acquired and will then drop off your credit report regardless of whether they have been fully paid or not.

Defaults are the same, the default will also run for six years. But please bear in mind that your creditor, or any debt collection agency they have passed your account to, can apply for a CCJ which will start the 6 year time period again.

Are any of these debts paid in full?
Are you currently paying anything towards any of the outstanding defaults and have you been in contact with the creditors since they were applied?

Good luck with sorting yourself out.

A default and CCJ can only be registered once per debt. They will come off your file 6 years after the date they were registered whether the debt has been cleared or not. But (just to clarify) even if the default or judgement comes off the credit file the money is still owed and will normally have to be repaid (there are exceptions to this rule so full, free debt advice is recommended).

Mortgage applications are made up of more than just a credit check so if the debts are still owed (and still enforceable) but not on your file, it could possibly affect you successfully getting a mortgage.
