A little persistence pays off...(interest rates)

Options
Hey, first time poster, long time reader.

In an effort to reduce the amount I'm paying on the one card I have debt with, I phoned Barclaycard to reduce my interest rates. I got through to their call centre, just to be told that they never reduce rates. (Which, as MSE has taught us, is not the case)

Annoyed, I wrote a quick secure email to Barclaycard, asking them the same thing. I also said that I have a couple of cards waiting to transfer their balance on to, which is partly true. (Just don't want to, as thats my holiday spending card !! ).

The reply came through ignoring my request completely, saying there are no balance transfer deals on my card. I don't want to transfer a balance on to my card! A supreme case of staff not reading their messages correctly.

Irritated, I rang the call centre again, who again told me I couldn't lower my rate, after putting me on hold, and speaking to her supervisor.

So, finally, I sent another secure email, complaining that my questions weren't being answered correctly at all. I said that I was losing confidence in Barclaycard, and that leaving was becoming a stronger possibility.

I received a reply last night saying my rate was being cut from 29.9%, to 19.9%.

The hard work has paid off, and I'm now a very happy camper! Persistence pays off!

Thanks for such a great site, and forum!

Marc

  • Well done on getting your rate reduced. :j

As a word of warning I had my rate reduced by Barclaycard last year after complaining. A couple of weeks ago when I received my statement it stated that they were putting my rate back up again to what it previously was - an increase of 4%. I complained and they said they would put it down again, but I have found a cheaper rate on balance transfer so have decided to close my account with them. Just make sure you keep an eye on your statements in case they try to put it back up again.

I will do, with the fun and games I've had with Barclaycard in the last few days, I'm watching them like a hawk!!
