Ridiculous NPower Bill

Hi,

I am hoping someone can help me. In 2014 I lived in a property, I was only in the property 6 months. Never there in the day as working and barley there at night. I was shocked to receive a bill for £2600 when I moved out. I gave NPower readings when I moved out and when I moved in. They have somehow gone completely over these or taken them down wrong.
I contacted NPower over a year ago they told me they would get this adjusted and re-issued. I never heard anything.
I checked my credit rating this year and was shocked to find this was still showing as a debt and nothing has been done. I called NPower again and after explaining to 3 different people that this is impossible for me to rack up such a bill they once again told me I would receive a new bill. 3 weeks later I still haven't heard from them and I have to have the same conversation every time I call as none of the operators read the notes.

Someone help I need this off my credit rating

So n'power have ignored the Opening and Closing readings you gave them and issued a final bill based on ficticious readings that gave higher consumption, and even though they have failed to answer your questions on the bill for over a year, they have now gone on to besmirch your Credit Rateing because you have failed to pay the bill - Welcome to planet n'power

WRITE a letter headed Complaint to n'power, setting out the detail and timeline of this saga, pointing out that soiling your credit record is actionable in the courts
  • Have just spent 5 months dealing with npower complaints over a faulty elec meter, which has now finally been sorted after going to ombudsman - you have my sympathy already!!

Firstly, if I were you I would calculate what kind of a bill I should have paid based upon the actual meter reads (you state that you took these at beginning and end of tenancy) - the formula should be on the bills but for elec daily standing charge + unit charge + 5% VAT and for gas the formula is more complex using calorific value, but easily searchable online and if you're stuck try and find a friend/relative who can help you work this out.

Once you've done this work out how much you've paid npower so you have a rough idea of how much you owe/they owe you.

Next email Executive.Complaints@npower.com - you've already tried speaking with npower and nothing has happened - go to the top (with npower get everything in writing!!)- asking for a rebill using actual meter reads for time period stated. If the complaint isn't resolved within 8 weeks then go to the Ombudsman - they won't touch it until you've had a formal complaint against npower for that time period.

Word of warning, even if you go to the Ombudsman and they get npower to rebill check the amount!! Our Ombudsman ruling stated that npower needed to rebill us for period of faulty meter - they sent a letter back stating that on rebilling we had not overpaid. Had calculated our bill and knew this was rubbish so sent letter by recorded delivery to npower asking how rebill was calculated and requesting a copy - rebill miraculously appeared showing that i'd overpaid by £600.....

... and if you do raise a complaint make sure you get a letter with the complaint reference number on it. Npower are remarkably good at not logging complaints or closing them without any communications.
