Is the dealer responsible for moving the car to get it repaired?

    I have no idea why I typed that. What I meant was window motors! I've cleaned up one of those recently, which had kept getting stuck, with lots of carbon build up from the fragile tips. And I think you mean wiper motors. Dirty wiper blades is another issue completely.

    They may recover under goodwill but as far as I know they aren't liable for collection.
  • I googled some more and eventually found something on the Citizens' Advice website which stated that I was legally entitled to a repair or refund under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Furthermore they say "If the fault means you can’t drive the car, you should ask the trader to come and collect it at their own cost. You shouldn’t have to pay, so long as the car is actually faulty."

    In the end I needn't have worried. When I finally got through to the dealer on the phone he was very apologetic about the fault, came and picked the car up from my home that evening and returned it the next day with a new starter motor.
