  • Morning, ((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))))) if you need one.

A much brighter morning, I have towels to put out they should dry.

Our new chimney pot is on and it worked!!! fire pulled much better last night and no smell of wood turning to charcoal.

The chap who came to do the pot also told me that we can have an inset multi fuel stove put in, it fits under the 'chair', the slope at the back of the grate, so we do not have to take the fireplace etc out. Not cheap but just under £1000 for the stove and fitting. We would use less coal and logs for better output of heat, the 80% lost up the chimney with an open fire is reduced to 20%, so you benefit for the 80% put out by the stove into the room, plus it burns all night which means I could switch off the horrible storage heaters.

OH is off to raid the heap on the car park at the village hall, there were some bricks dumped there, he wants bricks to extend the bit round the sentry box, so its easier to get round the corner. The path up one side made up from stone we have found in the garden is almost half way up to the top of the garden.

Another visit to the optician, have to have drops in so she can check my MD properly. I means paying out for 2 hours in the town car park which galls me not a little. I feel it does not make a good impression on tourists they are trying to encourage to visit. On market days they double the charge to £1.20 an hour, which in my opinion is scandalous. There is a car park for the market but its a standard charge £5 a day. Why are the town Feefoes not my favourite people?? They control everything that goes on in the centre of the town. Finish....or this could develop into a very long rant!!

Off to hang out the towels.
  • Good Morning everyone, we started blue sky and sunshine this morning but we now have high grey cloud and quite a zippy breeze blowing, not due rain until later on though so will be able to be out and about if we need to.

CSARINA we have an inset Multi Fuel Stove, it's the best thing we've ever done in terms of keeping the house warm and saving on energy costs. I find that the chimney breast bricks take in the heat and when I come downstairs in the mornings after it's been lit the bricks are still nicely warm to the touch and the room is still warm so although there is a potential 20% heat loss we seem to be retaining some and getting the benefit of it the next day. They're very efficient heaters and have transformed our home so that we just don't use the central heating at all any more, the boiler just cuts in twice a day to heat the water tank. It's saved us much!!!

Have yourselves a good day all, Lyn xxx.
  • Lovely photo JUDI. Soldier always looks so adorable and that smile would light up a room! Happy Birthday to your mom and I hope you soon feel well enough to visit. Don't feel guilty, you would feel more guilty if you inflicted your bug on to her and the other residents. xx

Judi, a better night for you, but a way to go yet, and I assume not looking forward to the weekend very much.
    Its usually quite stressful.
Doesn't Soldier look happy and he looks so well, they were lucky to find each other?
Lucky indeed, i just hope he doesnt get used to him being around. The plan is to get him adopted. Might take some time though. Its pretty sad really, he has been with his foster family since he was 3 months old and then something happened (something to do with the court order) and that left him alone and having to go into an orphanage... That is why the girls took him on.

    Afternoon all,

OH and I had 'words' last night so the atmosphere is a little chilly here today! Weather is alittle cool today also, although OH has gone out to cut the lawns.

Dinner today is roast beef (on offer), aubergine roast with spices, turnip, cabbage and green beans. Stewed some apples, they can go in the fridge for a couple of days' puddings.

Judi, glad that you are feeling better, take it easy and try not to feel bad about missing your mam's birthday, wait until you are better.

Ruby.....so sorry that Noodles new parents are finding things tough, poor Noodles and poor you, wish that you could find a solution to having her yourself.

BB, hope that you are less sore today.

Csarina....we put a small multifuel stove in our kitchen some years ago, it is very good but wish that I had put it in the living room as that is where we watch tv, OH lights the fire but it is not as effecient as the stove

Must go post a form which is way overdue to be returned......enjoy the rest of your day.

Another owner of two dogs here who seem to be not keen on people of colour..... Only problem is, my neighbour is black and after 10 years my dogs still dont like him.:o

Its definitely a colour thing because people can walk down the road, dogs look out the window and its only black people who get barked at.

    Afternoon everyone :)

Bit chilly but at least it has been dry. It seems that all the leaves have fallen off the trees this week. I do love it though, reminds me of being a kid and kicking leaves.

Saw my dad this morning, don't know if it is just because he is getting older or lives on his own (he is always out doing things though) he does seem to like telling me in great detail things that have happened to him in the past even though he has told me many times before. I have to say sometimes I pick the conversation topics carefully otherwise its ..."when I worked at...." or "when I did my O levels..."

Anyway doing something exciting with mince for dinner ;)

Afternoon. Just catching up with the thread whilst watching the trees shed all their leaves in the rollicking wind.

I've got a chilli in the oven, wine in the fridge and just about to put my feet up for a wee while. I've struggle with the new 'improved' tin opener, admitted defeat and used the old fashioned one from my German grandmother - works everytime.

Been to visit neighbours and their adorable four month old son (cue cuddles and dribbles and gurgles) though it didn't make me broody anymore.

The house is tidy and the spare room ready.

Judi - please don't beat yourself up about your mum You know you're doing the right thing by not spreading germs around. It's the best thing for her.

RedRuby - you did try to warn the other couple about Noodles, and you did your best with him too.

As I get older I'm getting better at shrugging off a lot of unnecessary guilt, and then get twinges of guilt about it! Sometimes it's good to do what's right for you.

Had a quiet day. Got a couple of laundry loads washed and dried ready to put away.

Managed to phone someone to come next week to discuss new carpets and left a phone message for someone to discuss painting and decorating the hall and landing. Still waiting to hear back but feel as if I have made a start on things.

Went shopping for milk and potatoes etc and plan to make steak and mushrooms tonight for myself and watch the tv I like such as the avengers, Mash, Star Trek and NCIS etc. I feel quite daring!!;)

I cat sit tomorrow night for the weekend and also middle dd is planning on coming over for a day or so which will be lovely.

    Hugs to all

  • Hello all, back from work early today as will be working on my day off tomorrow. Bright and breezy here so the washing is dry, lovely the smell of washing dried outdoors always pleases me. Like the pic of the little boys. I feel tired and weary today, OH has made a stew and DS wanted dumplings so I have done those, caraway and parsley ones.
I would like to go to bed but that is a daft idea if extreme daftness so I will find some jobs instead, anything as long as it is not the wretched ironing.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
