The deposit machines always have issues with Scottish bank notes and it's a faff to deposit with them - the HSBC / M&S ones seem the most problematic. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

If you are a Natwest customer then consider yourself lucky if you have any kind of branch near you. We're in a market town and they've just closed their branch completely here.0

Yes the machines do have issues with scottish notes and also sometimes refuse to accept certain cheques - customer then needs to see cashier.
They also will confiscate forged notes - customer then needs staff member to find out why note has been retained and then try to explain why it wont be handed back- usually a rather unpleasant conversation ( then staff member needs to find and fill in complicated form to send forged note to head office )
The machines can break down , become jammed ( shredding cheques and notes to confetti ) requiring staff member to assist .
Customers have been known to manage to break machines by jamming cards into the machine wrongly , jamming envelopes full of cash into machines that are meant to have just the notes fed in.
The machines also have problems with creased or torn notes so they need to be paid in over the counter .
Its never going to be perfect so that is why they have to get the right balance.0 -
