Redundancy and Location

Hi All,
Looking for some advice on a redundancy situation I currently find myself in. Almost 2 years ago I was hired for a role in my current company. There are several other people doing the same role throughout the UK and where there was originally one person doing my geographical location they decided to take on two of us (reason for this were never made clear.) It soon became apparent there wasn't enough work for two of us in the specific location and so the location was expanded to cover more of the Uk and ensure there was enough work to do. (It is a field based role)
Since then two more people have been hired to do the same role - in other parts of the UK. The most of recent hiring has meant a change to geographic locations again and as a result my role has now been reduced back to the original area and the decision has been made that there isn't a requirement for two of us in this area. The two of us are now in a consultancy period for redundancy. Is this correct, or should all of us doing the same role throughout the UK be considered for redundancy? I am happy to travel and willing to relocate to continue in the role but have been told this is not an option as there are no vacancies elsewhere. Surely they should not have hired the most recent person if it was going to lead to this situation?
Any advice?

How do you define the same role? You said there wasn't enough work to do thus it was expanded. Then they took two more people in other parts of the UK. You might have same titles, levels etc but doesn't mean you have identical jobs.ally.0
