Air conditioning leak fix?

Options
Hi

I went to my local Halfords to get an air con clean and top up service but after the guy did an air pressure test he told me he couldn't detect any pressure so there was probably a leak which I should get fixed at a garage. I have booked it at the garage who told me they will run a dye test to spot leaks etc. Now my question is how much could a leak cost to repair and does it take long to repair?

My car is only worth 1200 pounds and I was wondering could it be costly to repair the leak and if I chose not to repair it will it cause problems for me in terms of driving the car etc? Could I go without having it fixed?

Many thanks

Could be a £10 hose, a £700 compressor, or a combination of many items.

It will not cause any problems driving the car not having it fixed, but the system will deteriorate further and is unlikely then to ever be worth fixing.

    What kind of vehicle?

Some cars have common problems with the condenser or similar

I must admit that on a car of that value I would probably not get it fixed.

Though the no environmentally friendly option is to top it up yourself using a DIY kit from Halfords or similar and see if it actually works.

You might get away with having to refill it once a year.

The AirCon gas also contains lubricants that keep the system working efficiently.

Don't waste money on a refill kit. If the /halfords machine won't fill because it detects a leak, then it is a big one.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Just fixed mine on RAV 4. Turned out to be the condensor was holed, fits in front of radiator, and the high pressure aluminium pipe had split. Cost me just over £110, local aircon specialist couldn't find the leak as the front bumper cover hid the leak.
