Need advice on cheap channel crossing

Hello.
I am planning on spending some time in france this July and I wondered if anyone could advice me on the best value method of getting across the channel. I will be in France for ten days and so will need an open ended return ticket. It will be for one car and two adults. Which would be best, ferry or tunnel?
I know this is in the wrong section but I had no idea where to ask.
Thanks in advance.
