What do you mean by unlocked ?

Do you mean unlocked to a particular mobile network ,
Or do you mean unlocked as in rooted ?

If the first, then the easiest way is to try someone elses sim card in it (from a different network) and see if it works
If it does, its unlocked
If it doesn't, its locked

IIRC, it is now illegal for mobile operators to lock phones to their own network, and if you ring them, they will tell you how to unlock it.

Thanks for the reply guys, I only know people on O2 and Tesco as you probably know one & the same. The phone starts up with the O2 logo and I have tried a Tesco sim card in it, it works but I would like to sell it on as unlocked. I have (I think) unlocked it from instructions from the internet and I would like to make sure its unlocked before I advertise it. Is there now way I can do it on the phone itself ?

Tesco sims will work in locked O2 phones so this will not help you.

No there isn't. You need to get a sim from a different network. You should be able to pick up a free sim from another network.

This depends on the current network and the 'another' network.

E.g. Tesco or Giffgaff sims will work in a phone locked to O2.
