Can't uninstall AVG

I am stuck with an installation of AVG internet security that refuses to update and I am unable to uninstall - When I try, I get an error message " can't complete the task - due to another installation taking place "
Even REVO doesn't see AVG !!
I have tried the Registry to clear any installations currently taking place and there is none !!
"HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\InProgress"
Doesn't exist - there is no "INPROGRESS" under INSTALLER
Clearly - something has gone wrong with my Win 10 installation - but what and how do I clear it ?
My laptop has now slowed right down !!

Also, make sure nothing is trying to install in the background ..
Open task manager, and stop any processes called "msiexec"
