Barclays closing my account

Hi Guys,
So, recently opened and account online with barclays. A week or so later, they said they could no longer be my banker etc.
Was surprised, maybe credit, identity check etc. Spoke to them on the phone and a fella sated it was because they could not verify my identity and I should go to the branch with 2 forms of ID. Did this and the lady stated, they still couldn't. Anyway, they stated they can't give me any reason at all, as to why it was cancelled.
Lo and behold, I then received a post in the letter, which I was supposed to receive immediately / shortly after the opening of the account. This post requested I sign a document and send it back to them. Turns out I only received this post almost a week later - and to contains the terms and conditions etc. It was a week too late, as Barclays has already closed the account.
Question is: could this be the reason they closed the account? As they did not get the response from me regarding my signature - me having to send the form back to them etc. I'm guessing they were of the impression I'll receive the post quite quickly, after I opened the account online.
What do you think guys?
Thats in advance.

IIRC, Barclays are notorious for this disgraceful practice of allowing their computer to open accounts hastily - only to close many accounts soon after human beings check the applications more closely.
It's worth checking your credit files for errors, inconsistencies and unexpected information.
You can try appealing their decision if you don't find anything suspicious.0 -

Appealing to who? Barclays or Ombudsman?
Went to the branch, and they didn't appear forthcoming with any help or advise. They just wanted my enquiries to be over and done with.0 -

Don't know about Barclays, but many other banks have this explained on their websites, e.g.
Your application and credit scoring - Santander
Normally you do this in writing. I your case I would enclose the copies of your credit files.
Branches are powerless and useless. The best they can do is accept a written complaint and forward it to the relevant department if you want to save on posting.
I don't see anything at Barclays for private customers, so I think you can do this under their complaints procedure.0 -
Given that Barclay's appear not to want you why not just go elsewhere? From some recent threads on here (if you believe them) it could be a lucky escape.0
