Issues with Sainsburys Energy

I switched to Sainsbury's Energy in Janaury and have had nothing but issues since. I won't go into the hassle I went through to get them to acknowledge that I had sent them opening meter readings but it was a drawn out process!

I have recently moved house and duly rang Sainsbury's to provide them with the final meter readings so I could get my final bill. Whilst on the phone CS rep told me there was an issue as my account had been merged with an account with a similar address (but different building, not joined in anyway so very different meters!). It appears they have done this at the request of the person living in the other property (as far as I can tell he is an idiot that doesn't know what his own address is!).

Half a dozen phone calls and the best part of 4 hours of my life gone, SE confirmed they had been able to differentiate between the two accounts and my final bill would be sent.

I have just received it at my new address but the address listed for the bill is the other property, not mine! They want £70 off me and I'm at my wits end- I've no way of knowing if this is what I owe because they weren't able to tell me what my usage was.

I don't have time to spend 30 minutes + waiting on the phone for them to answer.

Do I have to pay this bill or can I notify them that I refuse to until such a time they provide a final bill with the correct details on?

I'm so fed up.

To make matters worse, British Gas are now mithering me to contact them- I've had a text asking me to contact them about my account. I know SE are part of BG but surely they shouldnt be sharing my details with them?- just to add context, BG are the providers for the other property mine got confused with.

Any advice on how to resolve this mess would be appreciated.

Do you still have a copy of the opening reads?
  • Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes I have the opening and closing readings.
  • Always pay then dispute the bill or amount asked for, particularly as the amount is not significant and British Gas are known for marking credit files quite quickly. Also takes some stress away from potential debt collection whilst your disputing it. So if you can afford to pay it, pay it. Then ask for evidence of why you owed the amount. If its incorrect then you will get your money back and maybe some compensation for the inconvenience this has caused. That's always the best route to go.
